LSU Cold Case Project Website Relaunched After Hacked in 2020

LSU Cold Case Project Partners with Catapult Creative Media for Secure Website

[Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 11/11/22]  – Catapult Creative Media launched the LSU Cold Case Project’s new website on November 11, 2022, after the previous site was hacked in 2019 by a nefarious group and taken offline.

When the LSU Cold Case Project reached out to Catapult, co-owners David Maples and Virginia Huling saw the importance of the Project. “Justice has always been something that Catapult has been invested in. From building websites for underserved communities to the non-profits we have been involved in, it’s just part of the company’s DNA. We are honored to be selected as a partner for this project,” Maples said. Catapult is working with the LSU Cold Case Project to do its part to help bring closure to the families and the nation for Klan-related crimes during the Civil Rights era.

The newly launched website hosts over 175,000 pages of searchable PDFs and images, over 160 cases, and dozens of stories of injustice in Louisiana and Mississippi in the 1960s and 70s. The cold case project represents the largest repository of searchable documents related to unsolved civil rights cases available online.

Catapult wanted to provide easier access to the documents now open to the public. The team used advanced technology to ensure the PDF documents were searchable and built specialized infrastructure to house the project for national access.

As the previous documents were unsearchable PDFs, they had to be carefully read by every individual who wanted information. The newly transformed documents can be searched by keyword, providing faster information to students, families, and investigators.

Catapult Creative Media is proud to be a part of this national correction of injustice. Visit the website today at lsucoldcaseproject.com and discover more about the stories and cases that affected our nation.
